Fingerlings

Objective

The overall objective of the fingerlings EWG is to promote collaboration and interventions towards competitive production of high quality fingerings that meet the demand of the domestic market.

Specific Objectives

1. To promote use of certified fingerlings in the sector through improved availability and access
2. To promote the use of improved species to increase productivity

Action areas

• Create awareness among fish farmers on use of certified high-quality fingerlings
• Facilitate linkages between certified fingerling producers and fish farmers
• Promote participation of registered fingerling producers in breeding of fingerlings
• Promote integrity and standards in production and sell of fingerlings

The EWG will specifically also work on the following subjects:

• Setting and monitoring standards of high quality fingerings
• Support brood stock management activities
• Monitoring implementation of new technologies of breeding systems
• Certification of hatchery operators in collaboration with the research working group
